Art and Literature

Apprentice
Pick an artist from the Dutch Masters.  (Some of these include Rembrandt, Frans Hals, Adriaan van Ostade, Jan Vermeer, Jan Steen, Hobbema, Vincent van Gogh.)
    1. Come prepared to tell about the artist life and what made them a good artist. 
    2. Make a copy, this means you draw or paint a picture that the artist created.

1. Review an Arabian Nights tale, and then write up what the theme is of that tale.  Relate the theme to a gospel principle and find at least one supporting principle. Finally write what you learned and then write two paragraphs of why you liked the tale or didn’t like it. A paragraph is at least three sentences with a main idea and two supporting thoughts. Come prepared to give a summary of the tale, share what the theme is and what gospel principle it relates to.
In Summary this includes:

Pick a tale from Arabian Nights. Find the theme. Relate the theme to a gospel principle. Find at least one scripture to support theme. Write two paragraphs of why you did/didn’t like this tale. Come prepared to share tale, theme and the gospel principle.
2. Review the Aesop Fables we have read. Pick two that are related. Write two or more paragraph of how they are related. Then create two art projects that show how the two fables you have chosen can be combined.
Summary: Pick and compare to fables. Write at least two paragraphs to show relationship. Create any art to show how the two fables can be connected.

Masters
Finish reading The Lost Prince.
So far in the story Marco, a poor European refugee, Samavian boy is educated by his poor father by exploring and talking to others. He learns by trying to remember the details of all he sees. While in London this last time he meets a crippled boy named The Rat. They play a drill sergeant game and Loristan, Marco’s father sends them on a dangerous mission to places all over the continent to be a forerunner of a great event that the two boys don’t realize is coming. They must stick together and use their wits. Continue to look for ways Marco is like each of us on our journey on earth. And how do the relationship in the story reflect our relationship to Heavenly Father.

Apprentice

1 Pick one of these artists and research about them and the kind of art they do. Email me your research and the one picture, (Please have a copy or a printed out version of the picture- nothing on the computer.) from the artist you choose and explain what it means to you:

We will be meeting at the Springville Museum of Art in Springville at 10:00am. Families are welcome to come for the tour. We are hoping to do some sketching after the tour.

Read the next 16 Aesop fables and crate any type of art to illustrate the fable you choose. Come prepared to share your art.

Read The Lost Prince Through Chapter 16. This story is a make believe story about a prince and his family that have been lost for 500 years.

1. The ways that Marco is like each of us on our journey on earth. 
2. Any correlations to the story and our relationship to Heavenly Father.

January Update for Apprentice Level

2. Don't forget to let me know what part of the cathedral you are doing a presentation on.  Email or call me.


3. We are going on a field trip,... just come at the normal time. We are still during class. We will be leaving around 11 am. We aren't exactly sure when we will be back so if you need to leave early or right after contact me or talk to me before class.
