Apprentice
Pick an artist from the Dutch Masters.  (Some of these include Rembrandt, Frans Hals, Adriaan van Ostade, Jan Vermeer, Jan Steen, Hobbema, Vincent van Gogh.)
    1. Come prepared to tell about the artist life and what made them a good artist. 
    2. Make a copy, this means you draw or paint a picture that the artist created.

1. Review an Arabian Nights tale, and then write up what the theme is of that tale.  Relate the theme to a gospel principle and find at least one supporting principle. Finally write what you learned and then write two paragraphs of why you liked the tale or didn’t like it. A paragraph is at least three sentences with a main idea and two supporting thoughts. Come prepared to give a summary of the tale, share what the theme is and what gospel principle it relates to.
In Summary this includes:

Pick a tale from Arabian Nights. Find the theme. Relate the theme to a gospel principle. Find at least one scripture to support theme. Write two paragraphs of why you did/didn’t like this tale. Come prepared to share tale, theme and the gospel principle.
2. Review the Aesop Fables we have read. Pick two that are related. Write two or more paragraph of how they are related. Then create two art projects that show how the two fables you have chosen can be combined.
Summary: Pick and compare to fables. Write at least two paragraphs to show relationship. Create any art to show how the two fables can be connected.

Masters
Finish reading The Lost Prince.
So far in the story Marco, a poor European refugee, Samavian boy is educated by his poor father by exploring and talking to others. He learns by trying to remember the details of all he sees. While in London this last time he meets a crippled boy named The Rat. They play a drill sergeant game and Loristan, Marco’s father sends them on a dangerous mission to places all over the continent to be a forerunner of a great event that the two boys don’t realize is coming. They must stick together and use their wits. Continue to look for ways Marco is like each of us on our journey on earth. And how do the relationship in the story reflect our relationship to Heavenly Father.

Apprentice

1 Pick one of these artists and research about them and the kind of art they do. Email me your research and the one picture, (Please have a copy or a printed out version of the picture- nothing on the computer.) from the artist you choose and explain what it means to you:

Read The Lost Prince Through Chapter 16. This story is a make believe story about a prince and his family that have been lost for 500 years.

January Update for Apprentice Level

3. We are going on a field trip,... just come at the normal time. We are still during class. We will be leaving around 11 am. We aren't exactly sure when we will be back so if you need to leave early or right after contact me or talk to me before class.

January  Inspirements


Apprentice


1.Study the parts of a cathedral. Pick a part of the cathedral you would like to report on. Let me know what that part is. Then come prepared to share a 5 minute presentation about the part of the cathedral you learned about.
The parts you need to know about are narthex, nave, choir, aisles, towers, transept, façade, arcade, triforium clerestory, tracery and vaulting. (The part you pick to do a presentation on may come from this list but it is not necessary.)

2. Read the rest of the first section of Arabian Nights. We are using Andrew Lang’s 1918 selected and edited version: www.gutenberg.org/files/128/128-h/128-h.htm

3. After reading Arabian Nights, pick a story you like and want to share with the group. Tell why you liked it.

1. Build a cathedral out of cardboard or paper of your own creation. (This means you can make a real cathedral but don’t buy a book and copy out the plans or get plans off the internet, use them for ideas but let the creative juice flow from you.)

2. Read the next five Aesop fables that would be 6-11 Starting with “The Bat and the Weasel and ending with The wolf and the Lamb”  www.gutenberg.org/files/11339/11339-h/11339-h.htm

3. Choose one:
-Write your own story to go along with Arabian Nights.
-Write a fable. The introduction to the Aesop fables has a good definition of what a fable is and what it is not.

November Inspirements

For Apprentice  

1. Read the first three sections of Arabian Nights.  The “Introduction”, the section called “Arabians Nights” and the section called ‘The Story of the Merchant and the Genius.” At: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/128/128-h/128-h.htm
--Without reading further write how you think the story will turn out. I am expecting this to be in essay form. Email this to me by Nov 30, 2013. Tball765@q.com and bring a printed out paper to class to turn in.
Then do a word study on the word ‘honor.’ This will be handed in after we discuss honor in class.

2. Watch Cimabue's Santa Trinita Madonna & Giotto's Ognissanti Madonna

--Two paintings are compared and contrasted.  Take a piece of paper and make a T- chart. On the top left side write Cimabue.  On the right hand side write Giotto.  Then list how they are the same or different. When you are listing the similarities and differences they should be listed straight of each other.  Bring to class, completed, to turn in.

--Write a one page story from one of your favorite days.  I don’t want a list of what you did.  I want a narrative- which means a story.  Tell it from someone’s view, yours, a fly on the wall, an outsider or anyone else. Bring to class to turn in.
